God Can Position You Before You Understand the Purpose

Introduction
There is a striking silence in the book of Esther. Across ten chapters, the name of God never appears — not once. And yet, few books of the Bible reveal more clearly the invisible hand of God moving through history.
In chapter 2, a young Jewish orphan, raised by her cousin, becomes queen of the greatest empire in the world. In that moment, no one knew why. Esther didn't know. Mordecai didn't know. The king certainly didn't know.
It wouldn't be until four chapters later that the purpose behind that position would become clear. God positioned her long before He explained the reason.

1. Not Every Position Is Simply a Promotion
We tend to read blessings as rewards. We land the job, the house, the open door — and we naturally conclude: God has blessed me.
And that's true. But there's a second layer we almost always miss: sometimes the position isn't about us — it's about who God wants to reach through us.
Esther received a crown. But that crown wasn't a prize for her beauty — it was the only possible access to the king on the day a decree of extermination would be signed. God was preparing a doorway before there was ever an emergency.
Look at the place where you are right now. Your job, your family, your circle of friends, your sphere of influence. And ask yourself: What if this isn't only about my life?

2. The Process Was Long and Not Always Comfortable
It's important not to romanticize this story. Esther's path to the throne involved twelve months of preparation (2:12), the setting aside of her public identity — Mordecai had instructed her not to reveal her people (2:10) — and a context she never chose for herself.
God did not promise that being positioned would be pleasant. He promised it would be purposeful.
If you're in a season you didn't choose, in a place where you feel out of place, that doesn't mean God miscalculated the coordinates. Joseph went through a pit, a foreign household, and a prison before the palace — and every single stage was positioning.

3. Providence Works Even When We Don't Understand It
Notice the sequence of "coincidences" throughout the book: Vashti is removed; Esther is chosen; Mordecai happens to overhear a conspiracy and saves the king's life (2:21–23); that act is recorded and then forgotten — until the night the king cannot sleep and orders the royal chronicles to be read aloud (6:1).
None of these events seemed significant in the moment they occurred. Every single one proved to be decisive.
God is at work in the chapters that don't make sense yet.

Perhaps today you find yourself in a place whose purpose you still don't understand. Perhaps you've even wondered whether it's worth staying.
God may be placing you somewhere today because of a battle you won't even see coming until tomorrow.
Be faithful in the position — even before you know the reason.
