Introduction
Today we arrive at the very heart of this series on faith. In previous weeks, we explored what faith is, how it works, and how it shows up in the lives of those who walk with God. But this week, the author of Hebrews places before us a truth that leaves no room for softening: without faith, it is impossible to please God. Not difficult. Not unlikely. Impossible.
That word — impossible — ought to stop us in our tracks. We live in a culture that prizes performance, sincerity, and good intentions. Many people assume that God is satisfied with whoever is a "good person" or whoever "does their best." But the Word of God is clear: the foundation of any genuine relationship with the Creator is faith. Without it, every religious effort is built on sand.
Today we are going to discover, together, three essential truths that this verse teaches us about faith as the foundation of our relationship with God. May the Holy Spirit speak to each of our hearts.

1. Faith Is the Language of Relationship with God
The verse tells us that whoever "comes to God" must have faith. That phrase — comes to him — is the language of relationship, of intimacy, of communion. It is not simply about fulfilling rituals or following rules. It is about drawing near, about a heart that moves toward the Father.
Now, every relationship operates through its own language. Among friends, there is trust. Between parents and children, there is love. Between God and human beings, the language is faith. It is through faith that we acknowledge our total dependence on Him. It is through faith that we open our hearts to His voice, His promises, and His guidance.
Think about your own spiritual journey. Were not the moments of greatest closeness with God precisely those times when you trusted Him fully, even without seeing the whole road ahead? Faith does not push God away — it draws us closer to Him. It is the means that God, in His wisdom, chose so that we might relate to an infinite Being whom we cannot see with physical eyes.

2. Faith Begins by Believing That God Exists — and That He Is Good
The text gives us two foundational pillars of faith: believing that God exists and believing that He rewards those who seek Him. This second point is often overlooked, yet it is equally vital.
Many people hold a vague belief in the existence of God but do not believe that He truly cares about them. They live as spiritual orphans — they acknowledge a distant Creator but expect nothing from Him. Yet the author of Hebrews tells us that genuine faith includes believing that God is a rewarder — that He responds, that He acts, that He moves on behalf of those who seek Him.
This is one of the most transforming convictions you can hold: God is not indifferent. He sees. He hears. He acts. When we pray, we are not speaking into a void. When we trust Him in an impossible situation, we are not being naïve — we are exercising a faith that moves the heart of the One who governs the universe. Without this conviction, our spiritual seeking loses its engine. With it, every prayer becomes an act of trust in a Father who knows us by name.

3. Faith Is Not a Feeling — It Is a Daily Decision
There is a very common misconception: the idea that faith is an emotion you either feel or you don't. "Today I feel a lot of faith." "This week I just can't seem to have faith." But biblical faith is not an emotional thermometer — it is an anchor cast into the truth of God.
The heroes of Hebrews 11 — Abraham, Moses, Rahab — were not people who never doubted. They were people who, in spite of their doubts and difficult circumstances, chose to trust in the promises of God. Faith is, at its core, a decision: the decision to take God at His word, even when our feelings are pointing in the opposite direction.
Practically speaking, this means feeding our faith every single day — through the Word, through prayer, through fellowship with other believers, through remembering God's past faithfulness. The faith that pleases God is not spectacular — it is steadfast. It is the faith that gets up every morning and says, "Lord, I cannot see the whole road, but I trust You."

Brothers and sisters, God does not ask for perfection. He asks for faith. A faith that acknowledges Him, seeks Him, and trusts in His goodness. Today I want to extend a simple invitation: choose to trust Him in what you have not yet understood, in what you are still waiting for, in what you still fear. Faith is the foundation — and on this foundation, God builds a life that pleases Him and transforms us.
