Point 1 — The Foundation Before the Words
Peter doesn't begin with how to speak — he begins with how to live. The order is clear: first, set Christ apart as Lord in your heart — then open your mouth.
Authentic evangelism is born out of a surrendered life. When the people around us see peace in the middle of a crisis, joy without an obvious reason, or selfless kindness, they ask questions. Our life witness creates the questions that our words then answer.
We don't need to force conversations about God — we need to live in such a way that God becomes unavoidable in the conversation.
Discussion question: "What aspect of your life most often leads others to ask you about God? And what aspect still needs more consistency?"

Point 2 — Ready, Not Perfect
Peter says "always be prepared" — not "always be eloquent" or "always have every answer." Readiness is a posture of the heart, not a theology degree.
Your personal testimony is your most powerful tool. No one can argue against what you have lived. A simple, honest story — "This is what my life looked like, I encountered Christ, and today I'm different because..." — carries more power than a polished sermon.
Practical and concrete: know three things by heart — (1) what your life was like before Christ, (2) how you came to hear the Gospel, (3) what has changed since then. That is your testimony. It fits in two minutes and opens doors that arguments close.
Discussion question: "Can you tell your faith story in two minutes? Try it right now with the person next to you."

Point 3 — With Gentleness and Respect
Peter closes with the how: gentleness and respect. Gentleness is not weakness — it is controlled strength. Respect is not fear of the other person — it is reverence for God and regard for the dignity of the one listening.
Aggressive evangelism that shames or pressures people closes more doors than it opens. The Gospel is good news, and good news is shared with joy, not anxiety. Your role is not to convince — it is to faithfully present Christ. The work of conviction belongs to the Holy Spirit.
Treat every conversation about faith as a gift, not a debate to be won.
Discussion question: "What is the difference between sharing your faith with gentleness and simply avoiding the subject out of timidity? How do we find that balance?"

Weekly Challenge
This week, identify one person — a coworker, neighbor, or family member — who doesn't yet know Christ. Pray for them every day. Look for a natural opportunity to ask them a genuine question about their life. You don't need to preach — start by listening. The best doors for the Gospel open when someone feels that you truly care about them.
Write down that person's name and come ready to share at your next meeting.
