Discernment, Courage, and Faith to Walk Through the Open Door
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." — Joshua 1:9
Introduction
In Revelation 3:8, Jesus says: "I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name." Here is the key: preparation for open doors begins on the inside — in character, in faithfulness, in communion with God.
1. How We Prepare: Commitment, Obedience, and Faithfulness
Commitment — open doors are not for the strong; they are for the faithful. We need to commit ourselves, not to the door, but to the One who opens it. When God sees commitment, He opens what no one can shut.
Obedience — "you have kept my word." Like Peter, who after a whole night of catching nothing still said, "But because you say so, I will let down the nets" (Luke 5:5) — and the miracle happened immediately. Immediate obedience produces immediate results.
Faithfulness — "you have not denied my name." You held on to your integrity even when the enemy tempted you with attractive offers. God is looking for those who cannot be bought.
2. What to Do When the Door Opens: Discernment
Not every door that opens comes from God. There are doors that look good but are traps — Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14). Before you walk through, ask: "Lord, is this door from You?" When God opens a door, it is never for your destruction. The blessing of the Lord brings no sorrow with it — only peace.
3. Courage and Faith
When the door is from God, you are going to need boldness to walk through it. Many people hold back when they see the size of the challenge. But God is not asking you to be capable — He is asking you to trust. Joshua 1:9 says: "Be strong and courageous… for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go."
Faith is the final key. Hebrews 11:8 says: "By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going." Abraham left without a map, because he believed. Faith moves you out of the old and into the new — you have to close some doors in order to walk through others.
Conclusion
On the other side of the door there is fulfillment, redemption, healing, and provision. But you must enter with discernment, courage, and faith. You will no longer weep in pain, but in joy — because the doors that were shut will be opened before you, and no one will be able to close them.

Lord, give me discernment to recognize Your doors, courage to walk through them, and faith to keep moving even when I cannot see the whole road ahead. May I enter with You, and not stand frozen at the threshold. In Jesus' name, amen.
