Outline: When Faith Demands a Decision
Theme: Believing God exists is not enough — you have to switch sides
Scripture: Joshua 2:9-11
"…for the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below."
---
Introduction
Rahab had heard the same news as everyone else in Jericho. The whole city had access to the same information. But she alone drew a conclusion from it that moved her to act.
---
1. She Heard What Everyone Heard
Support: Joshua 2:9-10 — "We have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea"
The Red Sea had happened forty years earlier; she believed based on testimony, not personal experience.
To develop: Romans 10:17 — faith comes by hearing.
2. The City Was Afraid; She Had Faith
Support: Joshua 2:9 — "all the inhabitants of the land are melting in fear before you"
Same facts, opposite responses. Fear acknowledges God's power without surrendering to it.
To develop: James 2:19 — "Even the demons believe — and shudder!"
3. She Arrived at a Theological Conclusion
Support: Joshua 2:11 — "the Lord your God is God in heaven above and on the earth below"
She didn't say "your God is powerful." She declared that He is the God — everywhere, without rival.
To develop: the difference between admiring God and acknowledging His lordship.
4. And Then She Switched Sides
Support: Joshua 2:4-6 — she hid the spies, putting her life on the line
She betrayed her city because she already belonged to another Kingdom.
To develop: faith that doesn't change your allegiances is not yet biblical faith.
5. The Decision Had a Cost Before It Had a Reward
Support: Joshua 2:12-14 — she asks for mercy with no guarantee the city would fall
She made her decision before she saw how it would end.

Practical Application
Distinguish between what you admire about God and what you have actually surrendered to Him.
Identify one specific allegiance that your faith has not yet touched.
Ask yourself: if no one could see, which side would I truly be on?
Decide before you see the outcome — that's what makes a decision faith.
---
Conclusion and Invitation
Invitation: Call forward those who have believed in God for a long time but have never truly switched sides — and invite them to take a concrete stand today.
