Outline: Save Your House
Theme: When faith enters one person, it begins to carry the whole family
Scripture: Joshua 2:12-13, 18
"…that you will spare my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and that you will save us from death."
---
Introduction
Rahab had a rare opportunity to negotiate her own survival. She could have asked only for herself. That's not what she did.
---
1. Her First Request Was Not for Herself
Support: Joshua 2:12-13 — the list: father, mother, brothers, sisters, "and all who belong to them"
Notice the order: she starts with her parents, not with herself.
To develop: genuine faith is rarely individualistic.
2. She Interceded for People Who Didn't Yet Believe
Support: nothing in the text suggests her family shared her faith
She intercedes for people who had not yet come to the same conclusion she had.
To develop: praying and interceding for family members who don't yet believe.
3. The Condition Was That They Had to Be Inside the House
Support: Joshua 2:18-19 — "anyone who goes outside your house into the street, their blood will be on their own head"
The protection was real, but it required coming inside. Rahab had to convince them to come.
To develop: it's not enough to want your family to be saved — you have to bring them in.
4. She Had to Talk to Them
Support: Joshua 6:23 — the spies brought out "her father and mother and brothers" — they were already inside the house
Between chapter 2 and chapter 6, there were conversations the text never records. Someone had to persuade them.
To develop: the unseen work of bringing your household in.
5. The Promise Was Fulfilled for All of Them
Support: Joshua 6:25 — "Joshua spared Rahab… and her father's family"
To develop: connect with Acts 16:31 — "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved — you and your household", noting that the promise does not remove each person's responsibility to believe for themselves.
---
Practical Application
Write down the names of those in your household, one by one, and pray for them this week.
Identify who is "outside the door" and needs to be invited in.
Have the conversation — the text assumes conversations that no one recorded.
Don't give up on those who haven't yet come to the same conclusion you have.
---
Conclusion and Altar Call
Rahab entered the covenant with her family on her heart.
Altar call: a moment of prayer for families, calling out specific names.
