God Uses Who Nobody Would Choose
"By faith Rahab the prostitute did not perish with those who were disobedient, because she had given a friendly welcome to the spies." — Hebrews 11:31
Hebrews 11 is the hall of faith. Abel. Enoch. Noah. Abraham. Sarah. Moses.
And right there among them, without a word of apology: Rahab.
Think about that for a moment. If she walked through the doors of a church today, how many boxes would she check?
She was a woman, in a culture that didn't count women in genealogies. She was a Canaanite — from the very people Israel was supposed to drive out. She made her living through prostitution. She had no Law, no temple, no priest, no religious instruction of any kind.
She didn't miss one qualification. She missed every single one.
And yet the Holy Spirit moved the author of Hebrews to write her name right alongside Abraham's.
How did she get there? She heard about what God had done at the Red Sea — forty years earlier, secondhand — and she believed.
Here's the part that challenges me most: the whole city had heard the same thing. The text tells us that everyone's heart had melted with fear (Joshua 2:9). The information was the same for all of them. What was different was the response.
The things people use to disqualify you do not limit what God's grace can do.
If there's a place for her on that list, there's a place for you.
